About Me
I am a part-time potter and full-time mother. When I am not looking after my two children or working with my ceramics I can be found at the allotment, baking a cake or curled up in bed with a good book. After over a decade working in the music industry I opted for a radical change in lifestyle and career. I took an interior design course at Chelsea College of Art & Design and started a family. While my children were at home all day I opted to be a stay-at-home mum, working on a small number of craft and design projects in my limited spare time. These included home-made wedding stationery and interior design work. Once my children started school I embarked upon a range of arts and crafts courses but focused on printmaking and ceramics. Now into my fourth year of making pots and other ceramic ware I have started to make my work available to buy, building up a small but dedicated client base in a short space of time.

About my work
Every object I create is unique. I specialise in hand-made pots and tiles along with the occasional Christmas decoration when I am in festive mood. My pots range in size and shape but I like to think they all have a tactile, feminine quality that makes you want to pick them up and take them home. I like the contrast between the rough, naked clay exterior of my pots and the smooth, polished glaze inside. Much of my inspiration comes from nature. I am always wandering off collecting stones or driftwood on the beach or photographing plants and trees in parks and woods. My tiles are all hand painted and feature a range of glazes or unglazed finishes. These can be used as individual pieces, framed and hung or incorporated with existing or new tile work. I have always loved 1950s design, especially textiles from the period and you can see that in my tiles. I was a bit apprehensive about selling my work but my partner featured a few pictures of my pots on his blog and I received a number of orders that day. It still feels odd that people want to buy my work but I am growing used to it.

Where to see my work
Much of my work is on display at this site. Visitors are always welcome to visit our home at any time where pots and tiles are on display. Feel free to email and arrange to drop by. A cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake are always on offer. Email me at info@rhianwinslade.com. My staircase design was selected and featured as one of the best staircase storage solutions by US website Apartment Therapy.

Commissions
I am more than happy to discuss your requirements for a bespoke pot, tile or other piece. I can produce work to almost any size or budget from £10 upwards. Please note that every piece I make is different. My pots are made by hand from scratch, not moulds, so while I can take into account your requests for size, shape and colour there will inevitably be some variation. Not much, I hope, but a bit.

If you would like to discuss your requirements please feel free to email me.
